Is there any significance in God using the rib to create Eve and not something else?

I was reading earlier and I starting wondering... why the rib? why not a shinbone, or a hip?

My only guess is that you can live a normal life if you are missing only one rib whereas just about every other bone in the body would have a serious effect on you if you lost it... does that make sense?

Also, are there any archetypical/paganistic symbols or meanings associated with the rib? I can't think of any... but if anything had significance, wouldn't a rib?

just curious.

Are you a Christian? It does not sound like it to me. The reason I ask is you don't have any wisdom from the Word of God. You only have words that form sentences.

If I told you that a cow jumped over the moon last night would you believe me or not? Would you dismiss it and go on your way or check out the story and find the real truth?

A Christian knows inside that the words on the pages of the Bible are the Word of God. They hold understanding and great wisdom that only God gives to them. Only a child of God can understand for the Holy Spirits comforts them with the truth.

God allowed ha-Adam to sleep and He God, removed ha-Adam's DNA the helix, the curve, and from this He, God created womb-man (woman) Bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh.

Now, just curious, go seek the truth in faith through Jesus Christ the Lord.><>

Assuming the creation of Eve in the scriptures is correct, then her DNA would be half Adam's. She can't be a full clone since she is XX and he is XY. Nevertheless, she would be as close to Adam genetically as possible, maybe like a fraternal twin. In actuality, we do not know where the parents, genetic makeup, of Adam or Eve came from. Were they actual son and daughter of God, like Christ. No, that can't be correct because Christ was the "only begotten" of the Father. How were they made from the dust of the ground? We don't know that. How was Eve made from a rib of Adam? We don't know that either. Brigham Young taught that Adam and Eve were born of woman just like the rest of us. They were brought here from one of God's other worlds in order to start God's family here on this earth. If that is the case, then Adam and Eve would qualify as extraterrestrials brought here by God. Their parents were children of God the same as us but on one of His other worlds. At some appropriate time, they were selected for this very important mission, to begin the human family on this earth. Can God do that? Sure He can. If He lives in the heavens and created all that we can see and then some, He also has the ability to go to and from those worlds and bring His creations where He will, at His will.

A rib is anatomically part of the skeletal system,a structure, scaffolding ,the base. Perhaps it's symbolically represents a piece of DNA used in the making of the female y gene. Remember that a few thousands years ago if you spoke about helical strands of molecules you really would not be understood. Having said this do not fixate trying to decipher medical, astronomical etc. facts from the Bible. It's subject is the soul, the spirit the inner most part of human existence and in this field you'll discover it's absolute purpose.

Actually, I've heard the meaning is metaphorical.

Eve wasn't made from Adam's skull; that would place her "above" him.

Eve wasn't made from Adam's foot; that would place her "beneath" him.

Eve was made from Adam's side. She stands beside him, as an equal, a co -worker, a companion. Also, the "ribs" cover the most important organs: the heart and lungs. Think the very breath of life and the beating of his heart: she came from the very substance forming and protecting them.

So, Eve was made from Adam's side, to walk, live, and work beside him. She was made from his ribs, to form and protect his heart(emotions) and breath(existence). Being a "second working" of this material, she is by nature more refined and flexible, having the strength of bone, and the flexibility of the rib cage, which expands and contracts with the flow of breath (life).

Kind of romantic, in a metaphoric surgical way.

Eden is a symbolic story. Eve being created from Adams rib,

the middle of his body. Shows that woman is not above or below

a man. But equal to a man in the eys of God.

No I don't know why but I think your reasoning is pretty good. I was reading something once that said woman was made from man's side..that she is a partner to him, an equal. God made Eve as a "helpmeet". In a perfect world, men and women would be perfect compliments to each other.

By the way, to the people who are having conniptions over what is being asked, and in just a nice, curious way: throw some ice water on yourself. It's just a question!!

The Hebrew word for rib is basically "curve", so the rib was chosen in translation since it is the bone of the body that is curved.

Today, however, we are given the knowledge to see that the 'helix curve' of DNA could be what was used to create Eve from Adam.

Source(s): Strong's concordance of Hebrew words: Rib - tsala 6760 tsala` tsaw-lah' a primitive root: probably to curve

Anatomically man and woman have the same number of ribs. According to the Bible a rib was used to show that Woman was equal to man neither to be placed above or below him.

Adam having Eve come from his side is merely an Old Testament prefigurement of Life in the form of Blood and Water, items used in the Eucharist, that came from the side of Christ when He was speared on the cross.

Through Adam (and Eve) sin entered the world and through Jesus Christ (aka the "new" Adam) sin is conquered.

Someone texted me this... "The Woman came out of a man's rib, not from his feet to be walked on. Not from his head to be superior to, but from the side to be equal with. Under the arm to be protected, and next to the heart to be loved."

Source(s): Someone mentioned Helix curve/DNA, I like that explanation too.
