Ideal would be in the range of 60 to 80 grams of protein a day.

Recommended by WHOM? If it's the USDA, it's based on the fact that you are a fat load and don't workout.
I'm 150 lbs, and work out. To maximize my workout, I need about 136 grams of protein a day. That is far above what the government recommends, but I don't listen to those quacks.
