Drives on a computer?

On any computer, there are 3 default drives:

A : Floppy drive

D: usually CD drive

Why is there no B drive? Is there a particular naming scheme for these drives?

There used to be floppy disks of two sizes: the 8 inch and the 5.25 inch floppy disks. The former is obsolete now and used to be the B drive. Some people already consider the 5.25 inch disk (the ones that we are familiar with these days) as also outdated.

You can force a drive letter to be B in Windows, if you so wish. But the previous answer was right. A and B used to both be floppy drives.

The B drive is from back in the day when there were 2 floppy disks, usually a 3.5" and a 5.25"

B was the designation for the second floppy drive. It was normal to have two floppies before hard drives became common.

B drive is used if you want to copy a floppy disk. It copies the contents to a ghost drive namely B.

    Hope this helps.

The B designation is reserved for another floppy or removable drive.

In the old days, many machines had A as the 3.5" FD & B the 5.25" FD.

B used to be the 5 1/4 drives. ancient technology. no longer in use.

if you notice, floppies are increasingly rare too.

    so now its,

    C harddrive

D cd or cdr or dvd or dvr

    E same as above

F and beyond, flash and cams etc.
