Israel is at war with the Palestinians and it goes back as far as many holy wars do. Well before we were born Muslims have been at war with Christians.

On July 12, 2006 Hezbollah captured 2 Israeli soldiers in the Shaba farms area. On July 13, Hezbollah bombed Haifa. Either dates could be considered as the start of the war, but capturing the soldiers, while problematic, would not have been severe enough to warrant Israel's response.
