What is your operating systems? If you are running W98, ME or lower it could be that your CPU is taxed, and you just need to Restart to clear it. Very common in older OSes.
If your are running OS W2K or XP it could be the same problem, but you don't need to reboot, you only need to CTRL+ALT+DEL > and END PROGRAM. Shut down not necessary in NT OSes. I would also recommend you increase your RAM. Watch for sales at Crucial.com
It is a problem that your email is so hoggy that it is gobbling up all your memory...you might be able to offset this situation by not running any other programs while you are running email. Games, WORD, and Adobe, and Power Point or Excell are also RAM hogs...try not running any of them while running email.
One more thought. Nortan Anti-Virus software is OFTEN a problem in conflicting with emails. If you have it dump it !!!
Go to Avast.com and download their FREE home use anti-virus software, and it will give you trouble free really great protection. Been using it for 2 years, and it has caught more than one virus and many trojans for me.
