In the 50's we generally made our kitchen curtains-- after pricing some last year-- I made some again.

Involved is measurement-- straight sewing and understanding of how you make curtains from a straight long piece of fabric. Truly is isn't hard.

If you don't sew at all-- you probably have a friend or her mother that does. They may be willing to show you how-- or even make them for you.

    good luck

Try a flea market, buy a bunch of retro kitchen towels and using clothespins and wire or twine, hang the towels across the window, it's a cheeky retro treatment.

If you sew just a little or know someone who does, look at tablecloths to find a checkered print.

With these two ideas, you can alternate seasonally and don't forget to look at grama's hanly drawer or your mom's linen closet....be very quiet.... and smile pretty...... then run!!!!

    sheilah!!

If I were you I would get creative and either sew some from red gingham or have someone sew them. Buy the retro fabric and go to town!!!!!

I would go to a fabric shop and ask them. They often know good seamstresses and tailors who could make curtains easily if you have the material.

I would say try Ikea. They have some funky retro stuff.

I'd try Ikea - they're very reasonable and lots of selection.
