unabridged is the full text, nothing omitted. abridged is condensed.

Unabridged means entire. Abridged refers to the condensed "Readers' Digest" version, hopefully including all of the important content.

In "Abridged" versions, stuff gets cut out. Not always in a way that serves the story. In "Unabridged" versions, the entire story is there.

abridged means that the publishers left out details that they felt were not pertinent to the story line
