Entercolitis is the swelling of both the small and large intestines. Enteritis is the swelling of the small intestine only. These dieseases are seen amoung infants.

Enteritis is the inflammation of the small intestine (inflammation of the large intestine is termed colitis, while enterocolitis refers to an inflammation of both the large and small intestine.).
Enterocolitis (or "coloenteritis") is an inflammation of both the small and large intestine. However, most conditions are categorized as one or the other of the following:
Enteritis is the inflammation of the small intestine
Colitis is inflammation of the large intestine, especially the colon

Enterocolitis-(en'ter-o-ko-li'tis) Inflammation of small intestine and colon. Hemorrhagic enteroclitis- inflammation of the small intestine and colon, characterized by hemorrhagic breakdown of the intestinal mucosa with inflammatory cell infiltration. Necrotizing enterocolitis / Pseudomembranous enterocolitis- an acute, superficial necrosis of the mucosa of the small intestine and colon, characterized by passage of shreds or casts of the bowel wall.
