will a door frame chin-up/pull-bar bar damage my door's woodwork?

any suggestions to the brand or type of bar that i should buy? any suggestions to bars that do not need screwed-on brackets? it would be great if the bar is adjustable and can be adjusted (height-wise)...

It should be fine, most garage doors are sturdy and used to support some of the weigth of the garage.

A piece of wood SCREWED over the door would work, cosmetically though I'd be inclined to add an appropriate door casing with verticals as well as the horizontal.
