Have the dentist evaluate him for halitosis. If he has it, there are prescription mouth rinses he can use. In the mean time, just deal with LIsterine. I know it sucks, but the dentist told me it really is the best.

Bad breath, or halitosis, can be a major problem, especially when you're about to snuggle with your sweetie or whisper a joke to your friend. The good news is that bad breath can often be prevented with some simple steps.

Bad breath is caused by odor-producing bacteria that grow in the mouth. When you don't brush and floss regularly, bacteria accumulate on the bits of food left in your mouth and between your teeth. The sulfur compounds released by these bacteria make your breath smell.

Mouth is a common opening.Gases emanating from the intestine or the stomach because of indigestion /constipation/acidity has to pass through the mouth.

Gases emanating from the lungs in diabetic patients (called as acetone breath)can cause the problem

Smell from the infection from throat infections take this route

Smell fro the sinus discharge(infected) can be foul smelling from the mouth

Or coming from accumulated food from the mouth or from odor causing bacteria.

So a comprehensive diagnosis of the root cause by the dentist is essential in this regard so that you just don't get temporary relief but a permanent solution.

Brush your teeth when you wake up, after every meal, and before going to sleep. Refer to 'How to Brush Your Teeth.'

    Floss daily.

Brush your tongue and the roof of your mouth - those are popular hiding spots for odor-causing bacteria.

Use anti-bacterial mouthwash when you feel bad breath coming on inbetween brushing. Don't forget to gargle.

    Chew breath-freshening gum.

    Drink a lot of water

Bad breath tends to come on strong when you haven't eaten for a while. The absence of food or liquid gives bacteria a chance to colonize your mouth.

Bacteria may reside way at the back of your tongue. You might want to consider investing in some tongue scrapers for this purpose: it might take a while to suppress the gag reflex, but they're cheap and very effective (especially when followed immediately with water).

he needs to brush after every meal, not just daily. He also needs to be flossing with each brushing. Listerine is an excellent product to be used after brushing as it does kill germs in the mouth.

he should probably be checked by a dentist, as periodontal disease is often heralded by bad breath.

Keep breath mints in his pocket and gargle with listerine before brushing his teeth. And make sure he flosses.

It may not have anything to do with his teeth. He may have a sinus infection. He needs to see a doctor and have this checked. Most people do not have this problem unless they are having health issues of some kind.

Take him to see a dentist. Sometimes stress can cause badbreath as well. Make him gargle with listerine and keep listerine strips nearby. Make him drink water more often too.
