external harddrives?

my father is getting rid of a bunch of computers at his company and i was wondering if it was possable to whipe out some of the hard drives and buy external inclosereshttp://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/c... if so how can i whipe out the old harddrives? is it possable

    Yes an external enclose will do. The stand alone USB to IDE cable (without the enclosure) version will do if you have no need to reuse the drives.

    Reformating/fdisk will not wipe those hard drives. I've been able to recover almost every file off of "formatted" hard drives. A program like Clean Disk Security will wipe every sector completely.

    Yes it is. If you're on Windows, look for a program called fdisk. This will erase the partitions and allow you to create new ones. This will make sure that everything is well and truly wiped. Be very careful which drive you tell it to erase though.

    The easiest way to wipe a hard drive clean would be to format it.

    Another way would be to remove the partitions in fdisk (for windows PC only) and set up new ones.

    Either way be careful because you can't recover the data
