Mechanical clocks were invented in the northern hemisphere by inventors who were trying to make models of the sun's movement in the sky.

To watch the sun from the northern hemisphere, you have to face south. Then the sun will rise on your left and pass over your head to set on your right. Since the hour hand on the clock was made to follow the sun's motion through the sky, it moves from left to right over the top of the clock - clockwise. The hands are actually modeled after the shadow on a sundial.

I bought a clock couple of years ago. it runs the other way. It is made by some art factory and when u want to read it u should use a mirror or u should rotate it in ur mind and after a period of time u can read it easily. That's how it is made in normal. they have made all the same so u can read it in comfort.

Because if they ran the other way, that would be clockwise.

Because it's how sundials worked with the direction the sun goes throughout the day.

Because it is the direction that the shadow on a sundial goes. It is also the direction in which the earth rotates...which is why the sundial goes that direction.

    Why not...

IT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS... IF IT WOULD RUN THE OTHER WAY THEN YOU WOULD ASK "WHY DOES THE CLOCK RUN ______"... I don't know the word.
