What are the best activities to do in the Smoky Mountains with a baby?

Are there any paved trails in the park that would be good to walk with a baby in a stroller? What about Cades Cove? Any other activities you would recommend in Gatlinburg?

There is so much to do there....

Here is a great web site to check out road & trail openings/closures. www.nps.gov You can even plan your own trip through this site.

Or you may be interested in heading the opposite way to see part of the Appalachian Trail through the Smoky Mountains. The V.C. said it is just a sign that one has to hike 1/2 mile to but it maybe neat to go to. We did not.

We didn't have a lot of time so we took the route that they suggested to see the most in a short time. It took us about 4 hours up & back & we went quickly. Stopping to take a lot of pictures & yet using the zoom for the wildlife. They say the drive around Cades Cove takes about 1.5 hours....We were finished in 50 mins. Not much traffic & in the Spring mind you.

We went on 441 & stopped off @ the Sugar Lands Visitor Center. We got a free map & a lot of great info. on all the waterfalls to see from the car, trails that were the best for us to take & on Cades Cove seeing that's where we were headed.

The drive is great! New roads. Stop off at Cades Cove Visitor Center & look at the buildings, the mill & we even walked back to the stream. Great potty break. Many old buildings to see. We stayed on the road & saw a lot of wildlife just from our SUV! Bumpy roads after Cades Cove & 35 MPH.

I would suggest to you, bringing like a Snugglie Baby Carrier if you have an infant & you plan on walking/hiking some trails. Bring OFF!!

We headed up in the morning & really got some beautiful pictures & there wasn't much traffic.

Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies in Gatlinburg is great! Nice place to eat lunch since it takes a few hours. Great place 2 take kids! The Sky Lift in Gatlingburg is great! Awesome views on a clear day! Hard Rock Cafe Gatlinburg.

P.S. It would really help to try & get to know the area ahead of time. You might be seeing parts of Seiverville, Pigeon Forge & traffic in these areas are very busy! Outlet Malls in Seiverville. We did take in a show in Pigeon Forge-The Dixie Stampede which was great food(too much for us) good service & a lot of fun!!
