I had braces for years, so I know what you are talking about. Most of the time it will only hurt for the first couple of days. But here is the good news. Ice cream can help with the pain. This tip came directly from my orthodontist. The cold temp will slow down the process of the wires suddenly moving your teeth which is causing that pain.

Or just simply keep drinking cold drinks....ice water, etc. Nothing too sugary, you don't want white spots on your teeth when you finally get the braces off.

    Feel better soon! :)

Unfortunately this is all normal. Each time you get the braces adjusted it will hurt like this. The first time is the worst - it will go on for about a week. After that, each adjustment will hurt for a few days, and chewing will be uncomfortable. If you get rubber bands eventually, you will have another unusually painful week the first time.

Tylenol is not likely to help you as much as ibuprofen (Advil) would. Get some Advil. Don't take Tylenol and Advil together, though; they interfere with each other to some degree.

I truly sympathize with you. Nobody understands how this feels who hasn't gone through it. You WILL eventually feel better, just tough it out until then. That's all you can really do.

Try to get some Advil, I find it's the best and not harsh like Aspirin or something. The pain will go away and it's completely normal. Try having some nice soup, or scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, ice cream etc. Food in your stomach will make you feel better. Don't worry, it won't be like this the entire time you have your braces ~ I've had mine for 2 years and even when I get a new wire put in or tightened the pain only lasts for a few hours now. You may find that some of the brackets and wires scratch up the inside of your mouth ~ if you don't have some already, ask your ortho for some silicone (or wax) to put on the brackets. You can aslo buy them in the toothpaste aisle.

Aww, don't worry about it. I remember how it was when I first had those railroad tracks in my mouth as well. Yes, it is very difficult to try to chew anything at this moment, so eat really soft food. If your teeth are hurting, it is because your gum is swelling up from all the pressure. I suggest you get some warm water with salt and rinse it out for at least 30 seconds each time. It'll strengthen your gums and you'll heal quicker. Within a week, you'll be able to eat steak!

Avoid taking medication because it won't always help. You do not want to become immune to the medication, otherwise, next time it hurts even worse, the medicine may not even help. Just live through the pain for a week and you'll do just fine! Remember that your smile will be just gorgeous after a few years. You'll get through it.

braces always hurt for a couple of days after you first have them put on and then every time you have to go in to have them tightened. I know it's not pleasant, but taking Tylenol or Advil is about the only thing you can really do. you can try putting some Anbesol on the really bad ones, but it's most likely just going to rub off and it tastes terrible. just stick to soft foods for a couple of days. I feel your pain. I had braces 3 times for a total of around 4-5 years!!

its going to hurt honey. ibuprofen is the best though, tyelonal doesn't help much. you can use an ice pack on your cheeks/lips. it's very normal to have pain and difficulty chewing. it depends, sometimes a day or two, up to a couple weeks. it gets better, i promise. if you really are desperate, take a sleeping pill or some benedryl, or even night time cold medicine. it will knock you out for a little while.

You will be in hell for about a week. I suggest brushing well, eating LOTS of icecream and taking tylenol. Otherwise your stuck. They will hurt like that everytime you get them tightened too, just not for as long. Srry about the braces hunny but think how gorgeous your smile will be when they're off!!

I am currently wearing braces. The pain is totally normal. When i first Got braces I didnt take any pain relievers. Itll only hurt for about the first week or so. Drink soup, or eat pudding/jello. (:

the pain will go away you have to get used to it. also i recomend taking advil, or tylenol BEFORE you go into the ortho's office it should help. It is also normal for you to have a hard time chewing. soup ice cream and milkshakes are your friends
