Do you think the U.S. pistol cartridge should be changed to the new 5.7 x 28 FN cartridge, or the .45 ACP?

I don't know much about the 5.7 x 28, they say it has great armor piercing capabilities, but i don't know how a 38 grain projectile will fare against an unarmored opponant. The .45 ACP has pretty much been proven through use, and I think it would be a great cartridge for battle against unarmored foes, however it wouldn't be good if we ever got in a war with an enemy who could afford body armor. Thoughts?

The 5.7 x 28 "HAD" great penetration back in the 1960's against the standard Soviet body armor at that time. Today however, it's a joke. The .45 acp is the best defensive auto pistol cartridge available. The government should never have dropped it.

I agree with Doc Holiday. The .45 ACP was the most powerful sidearm ever fielded by the US Military, and the cartridge has seen a renewed popularity today. As for Armor Piercing Capabilities, try using a grenade.
