I don't get it, you only need 3 lines (vertical or horizontal) are there other restrictions?

Can you connect 9 dots laid out 3x3 using 4 straight lines, without lifting your pencil from the paper?

This puzzle can be solved from four different angles, but this is one of the solutions:

Draw diagonal line from lower-right dot to upper-left dot. (passes through 3 dots)

From there, draw straight line from upper-left dot to upper-right dot, continue drawing the line past it a little ways. (passes through 3 dots)

Now, draw another diagonal line from the end of the last line to just below the lower-left dot. (passes through 2 dots)

Finally, draw a straight line from the end of the last line to the top-left dot. (passes through 3 dots)

This completes the solution and can be done without lifting your pen/pencil from the paper.
