silence is golden but duct tape is silver. what does that mean?

Silence is golden - means that you are really glad when things are quiet - duct tape is silver - means in this case I can do almost as well as silence by using duct tape to place over your mouth.

a duct tape is always silver and you can use this to achieve a golden silence.

It's more of a witty observation. You tell your kids silence is golden to get them to shut up. Gold would be your first option. But Silver is next to gold so if they don't shut up you'll duct tape their mouths shut.

it means silence is best but if you talk too much duct tape will shut you up!

it means silence is golden when important things come into life that you need to listen to and if you cant be quiet and listen get some duct tape to cover your motuh so that you can follow the right path in life.

The best way to have quietness is silence (1st = gold).
The 2nd best way to have quietness is duct tape (2nd = silver).

It's a joke, a play on words. The full saying is 'Speech is silver, but silence is golden.' It was supposed to be a lesson to children to keep quiet.
I like' I walked into the living room. The curtains were drawn, but the furniture was real.'
