Anybody have SPYBOT Search and Destroy?

I'm beginning to think Spybot is putting viruses and ads ON, not taking them off. Anybody have input on this?

Spybot is very good, however you do need to run several antispywareproducts as they work in different ways. Here are the ones I use.

    Antiviral. (free)

AVG free. Excellent protection available from: http://www.Grisoft.com

Don't use two antiviral products together as they may be incompatible. If your Antiviral trial has run out, then remove product from your computer and get the AVG installed.

    Anti-spyware (all free)

Essential products are: Adaware SE from: http://www.lavasoft.com

    Spybot SD http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index....

    Spywareblaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.htm...

Windows Defender - from Microsoft downloads.

    Spycatcher

    http://www.tenebril.com/consumer/spyware/spycatche...

PC starter kit at download.com 20 of the best recommended programes for people new or less advanced in computers. Check all three pages, at bottom see Security/Tools/Fun

    http://www.download.com/PC-Starter-Kit/2001-12350_...

    C Cleaner.http://www.ccleaner.com/

This will tell you a lot about what is on your computer, such as running programmes, cookies, History, settings etc. and will help you clean up and remove unwanted items. Be careful how you use it as it is a very powerful programme and you should read the help index before you do anything with it.

I've used spybot for a longtime and I find it to be an effective tool against certain adware programs that can infest your system. I HIGHLY doubt it is putting any viruses or ads on your computer. However, as a compliment to spybot, you might want to dowload adaware from www.download.com (just type in adaware) and also run that free program to delete other ad viruses that may have infected your computer.

Spybot is a very effective scanning and removal tool. The resident protection parts are bit flaky though. I would disable spybot resident modes and download spyware blaster to protect yourself from malware. You should also have an effective anti-virus resident running as well, both AVG and Avast are up to the task, consume reasonable amounts of resourses, and of course are free.

I've been using it for at least 4 years now and haven't encountered any problems. It won't remove everything from your machine though. Typically you need to run 3+ programs (Spybot, Adaware, Spysweeper, etc..) to rid your machine of adware/malware.

Some of it's really nasty and has to be manually removed but I definetely don't put the blame on Spybot Search & Destroy.

I've usde spybot search and destroy for 3 or 4 years now, and I haven't had any problems with it. It has helped out tremendously, but sometimes it doesn't always get everything.
