Is the rumor true that Filipino fans in Manila spat upon the Beatles during their tour there in 1966?

The Beatles apparently snubbed a meeting with Imelda Marcos and a coterie of favored politicians and military lackey's children, and upper class spoiled rich kids who felt the Beatles let them down. The Beatles claim to have been spat upon, a cash-filled briefcase was "confiscated" and they were accorded only one motorcycle back to the run-down airport, when screaming furious Filipinos spat on them and verbally abused the Fab 4.

It's true. The Beatles did not do a "tour" in the Philippines. They were supposed to do a concert in Manila, but were summoned to visit Ferdinand Marcos and his idiot wife at exactly the time their concert was to start. The Beatles declined, so they could get to the concert on time, and the Filipinos freaked out. The concert never happened, and the Beatles had to pay thousands of dollars in bogus export taxes to get out of there. They vowed they'd never visit that country again, and they never did.

That's the story anyway. I wasn't there so don't really know, but it seems true.
