There aren't even enough qualified instructors to teach Arabic in College. For instance in the 23-university California State University system, only one, Cal State San Bernardino, teaches any Arabic, and this is only for two years. The Cal State system provides most of the teachers for the California Public Schools. So, if there's not an Arabic major, there isn't a pipeline for teachers into the high schools teaching the subject.

This is key. One respondent said that nobody teaches Japanese in High School. This is untrue. California State University, Fullerton has a Japanese major and several high schools in the Orange County area (where CSUF is located) offer Japanese.

Hi, I believe Spanish, French, and English are the most commonly known languages. Why arab in particular? I would ask why not Japanese, Chinese, Gaelic, Hebrew, among others. I think for tax purposes, the schools can't have an offering of every language. You are more likely to run into someone and have to speak spanish then you are in arab of japanese.

There's not as many Arabs in school as there are children who speak Spanish. Also, they teach French, German, Italian because people are more likely to use those languages in their lives than Arabic.

Becuse the three languages spoken in the North American Continent are Spanish, English, and French. As we assimilate other cultures more languages are being taught in schools. Here in CA Viet Namese, Mandarin Chinese, Portugese, and others are being taught in public schools at the secondary level.

Arab is a language that is not accepted in the world market as much as the other two languages that are primarily taught. Arab is a very dirty language and also the language of Islam so it is important to eliminate this language from the world.

Looking at the other answers there are many good points, but Arabic it is also incredibly difficult to learn and has a totally different script. And you don't even write from the same side of the page.

  • I think part of it is that there are many more people who study those languages in college. There are many often spoken languages throughout the world that are uncommon in primary and secondary education (by college if one is at a large enough school one can find classes in most languages, even Mayan). Some of it may also be tradition. If you want to take a class check a community college.

some schools might be cheap and dont wanna waste money but other schools i think might not do it beacuse its not as common as lets say spanish in the us, ppl need to learn spanish beacuse so many hispanic ppl live here already. because there arent as many people in america speaking arab then there is spanish. and schools want you to be able to communicate in languages that you'll most likely run into
