Hi Kazoo 1991, thanks for your answer to my question, I am open to any additional tips, you sound like a gold-mine of information :)
About the name, ask your library for a "Spoken Russian" or other Russian-English Dictionary. Also baby name -choosing books are good.
If you have a few words in mind, your local library reference desk should be able to find them in Russian.
Think of a meaningful or descriptive word such as "prince" or "playful" etc., then look up the corresponding Russian word & see if you like the way it sounds & fits your cat. Maybe the name of a Russian prince.
Online too, try typing in " Russsian names for animals" or something similar.
Look at a map of Russia & see if any city names or famous landmarks appeal to you & remind you a particular trait of that cat. For example, my friend named her snowy white kitty "Aspen".
If you have a local Russian-American Community Hall or similiar groups, when you reach someone in person & explain that you want to honor the Russian origins, people can be amazingly thoughtful and enjoy helping someone with their own knowledge of their culture. You can ask them to reel off some common Russian names, and see if you like any of them.
Also, I like to say a prayer for just the right name.
Have fun & let me know what you choose !
