The bolt will bottom out and the balancer wont be tight enough and vibrate. Get right bolt, what does it cost a dollar or two.

If it is the bolt that holds the balancer to the crank shaft it won,t tighten up and if it is a bolt holding the lower pulley to the balancer then it could rub a hole in the front engine cover or oil pan. On an application such as this it would be wise to get the correct bolt by going to a dealership and having them look it up for you.It can,t cost that much compared to the trouble it could cause.

It depends on how long and how much force you used. Normally it should not hurt nothing if you didn't impact it too hard. About the most it probably will do is not let the balancer tighten all the way up. If you can have it cut to length if you can't find the correct length, As long as it isn't 3/8 to long it might work. They leave just a little extra threads when they machine the crank.
