I was an atheist, and am now a Christian, and I have to say that my life is a thousand times better now.

Hard to say, I never really believed... even when I really wanted to.

I know belief in an afterlife is supposed to be comforting but I just don't see it. I believe that your soul (or consciousness) is just a physiological process in the brain. Even so, it doesn't mean my life has no purpose - I find my own purpose in life. Good and evil are human concepts. I also realize that my time here is short and anything I can do to enrich another person's life is what I consider to be good. I don't believe in any God but I'm very happy, very content, and make the most of every day because I know my happiness depends on what I do - not on a metaphysical being who demands I worship him or I face eternal torture. Wait a minute... I don't believe in God so I'm going to hel even though I try to lead a good life. So I'll be there with people like Hitler getting the same punishment he gets.... I guess our "all-loving" God is an all or nothing kinda guy...

Atheist is actually a pretty insensible thing to call yourself.

Atheism means that you know that there is no God. In other words you have infinite knowledge to know that there is no being of infinite knowledge. Self defeating. They'd be better off calling themselves agnostic. Though, it may not be much better. "Agnostic" means that you cannot know if there is a God. In other words you are admitting that you are an ignoramus...you can't know? Then how do you know you are right?

Anyway...to answer your question. Can someone that is truly a Christian become an atheist? or an agnostic? That's a tough theological question. But let's assume we understand what you're driving at. I'm guessing that they may feel better now, but not so hot later (actually, they would feel hot - my mistake).

All atheists will say they feel so liberated and enlightened now that they are out of the "bondage" of Christianity. I don't believe it. They feel a pit in their stomach that they will never admit to feeling. When no one else is around, they feel the war in their souls. I know it's true because I felt it when I turned from God, and everyone I know who turned from God and came back tell me the same thing. The pleasures of sin are for a season, so they may think they're doing great, but in the end, they'll discover that they sold their soul for much too cheap. And they'll have all eternity to suffer for it.

Despite what some people say, there is no such animal as a "used-to-be Christian".

They never had it in the first place.

I used to be christian. Now I am an atheist. I feel better. I feel like I have integrity now, like I am being true to myself, and my world view is aligned with reality rather than fantasy.

I don't have to check the answers from atheists to see if I'm right!......why?....because they are not going to be totally honest!.....To answer your question: they feel worse!...why?....because they wasn't able to stay in the Lord due to their human mentallity of wanting to place man over GOD'S WORD!.....

    Maybe. Probably

Now that they no longer feel they have a higher being to account to, their conscience should not be bothered at all with the things they do.
