How long ,after being exposed to poison ivy, does it tak to start itching?

You've got about 15 minutes after contact with your skin to wash it off.
The itching will start a while later, but the sap has started working long before the physical signs appear.

If you wash it with soap and water within an hour of exposure you will not break out.
It takes about 24 to 48 hours before you will notice an itching and a red area. This red area will turn into blisters in another 24 hours.
I have tried everything and found Absorbine Jr is the only thing that gives me any relief.
Ivy Dri and Calamine Lotion just make it worse.

you may not itch at all!! depends on the sensitivity of the person and as you age you are not as likely to break out,,, also you need to touch the oil or sap of the ivy,, just brushing the leaves will not cause a reaction,,,
