Why is it human nature to try to force everyone to behave and believe like you do?

Because people need to justify the choices they've made in life by comparing themselves to others. Nobody wants to be an individual... its lonely. Everyone wants an army to follow.

Some of it is probably an artifact of our evolution in family groups and small tribes. Survival of your group (and therefore you and your offspring) would depend on everybody doing what had worked, and that means whatever they had been doing all along. If your kid or neighbor took up teasing Dire Wolves, you had best discourage that.
Alternatives (and any or all these may come into play along with wired-in behavioural tendencies).
Memes, especially but not exclusively religous ones, as described by Dennet, Dawkins, Blackmore and others. You do it because it works for the memes - they drive your behaviour and spread by you getting others to conform (adopt the same meme).
Basic insecurity. If you aren't doing what they think you should be doing, maybe you will appear 'better' than they are. Among the insecure, this is a huge perceived risk.
Sheer orneriness.

Could u imagine our world, countries, homes, special relationships etc. if this weren't the case? Dr. Phil put a name on these types of people. They're called "right fighters". They actually need to force people to believe and behave their way for their need to be "right"; to be in charge; to feed the ego (E.G.O.= "Ease God Out" which is what someone shared w/ me); to be in need of supporting their behaviors, etc. with the term, "Well, everybody does...". It's a shame they're so very insecure. The world is big enough for all opinions. It's better 2 agree 2 disagree & 2 let God handle it.
Also, arguing opinions (which r not facts) is a waste of time. My grade school teacher taught us this. I never forgot it & am not as argumentative bc of keeping that in mind.
Happy Sabbath.

Because deep down we care about our fellowman or woman. And so, we try to help FIX their problems.. Not always in the right way, but the motives are honest and truly done out of love.. I know, I know. It doesn`t seem like that... LOL
God bless & hugs from Texas..{:-)

I do not believe this is true of everyone, but it certainly is true for those who feel that they must always be in control of all others who are in the same situation as themselves.

thats the way we are made from our genetics. its survival of the fittest. to show we r supirior to others, we try to impose command over others. this way we try to force everyone to behave and believe like we do.

I think that it falls back to nurture..(parents or a guardian) teaching you to do this and do that you just bring it with you as you get older..you don't mean to and some people can break free from it but others can't ..

I don't want people to behave like me or beleive like I do, but I would like them to respect my behavior and feelings as I would respect theirs.
