In the 1990's I traveled in the UK and Ireland, on the Continent, and visited Greece and Turkey. I drove alone for most of my trip, and had only one hostile encounter - in Greece, where after responding, "U.S." to "Where are you from?" I was told, "Go home." All of my other experiences in Greece were just the opposite.

While in Paris complete strangers asked to sit with me "to practice my English;" in the courtyard at Winchester Cathedral I received a tour and history lesson from a local, and then was invited to tea to meet my guide's wife. On the Adriatic, in what is now Croatia, a group of English speaking visitors from other parts of Yugoslavia assisted me and my companions when we locked the keys in the car. They arranged for the locksmith, invited us to their homes, and took us to breakfast the morning we departed. The entire trip was filled with similar experiences.

I don't think many of us have hostile feelings toward foreigners who live under governments we find offensive, on the contrary we generally wish them well. Radical Islamists and a few others may sincerely hate us, but the vast majority, who may despise our current government, do not.

It does seem that America lost face with many foreign nations in recent times.

Just how does America regain respect in the world community?

    I wish I knew.

The old way of smiling and throwing money at foreign nations seemed to work better.

Once America had it's tail between it's legs seeking peace at a table in France.

    The year was 1972.

    Nobody cares about peace anymore.

I can only guess that foreigners, in general, see America as a big and powerful war machine in search of a little war all the time.

When I was in Ukraine last year most of the people I met were curious of me as an american. They wanted to know more about what I thought of their country. I didn't feel hated at all but in some countries you would be be-headed for showing up. I guess it all depends on the foreigner huh? Don't trust so much what you watch on the news. Find out for yourself what the rest of the world is like, you'd be surprised.

I am a proud American who migrated here from south America 30 years ago and most if not all of my friends and people like me feel very lucky to be here. We do what we have to do to protect individual freedom and liberty and if some don't like it ...oh well. I try to do my part when I travel to be a good ambassador of America, I have nothing against any country. But I will defend my country and any ones right to freedom as long as I live.

Why does it even matter? In the very large scheme of things, does it really matter what some auto mechanic in Hamburg, or a real estate agent in Bari, or a middle school teacher in Edinburgh thinks about the United States? Libs spend WAY to much time with the handwringing and worrying about how people FEEEEEL, and if they LIIIIKE us or not.

they think we are an obese society and a society that spends too much money and wants so many things. There is no religion of the country and they think we are a country that thinks we are better than others

Many regions are infatuated by western culture, and some have distaste for our foreign policy. It's not fair to say that everyone hates us, and it's even less fair (and factual) to say that it is the current administraton's fault.

They don;t like us until they really need us then, all of a sudden, we are perfect. Take France, for instance. If there were terrorists attacks there, like 9-11, they'd be begging us to help them.

i thought it might be nice to listen to my words, a normal iranian guy. we(normal guys) just think that all americans are living great in wealth and they are free, but most of us think negative about the US government. but some people(highly religious people) think all of you are the same and u should be burnt in hell!!! and some other think nothing about you.

and something else, 90% of the news are just lie.
