No it is not legal. You must go to the Department of Natural Resources to obtain a permit.

No. It is NOT legal to harvest trees off BLM or Federal(public)

lands! Some places have very strict fines in place for even removing mushrooms or flowers, stone, wood, etc. Permits are issued in certain areas for specific purposes like collecting stone or christmas trees or firewood depending on whats allowed. Check with your local land management or ranger district to see what's needed and what's permitted.
