    He wants attention!

Well, when you're one-on-one, he gets all the attention, but when guests come over 2 things; 1) may not be use to the company and be a bit clingy and 2) not use to not being the center of attention.

If, at 18 mos. you are expecting him to go off and play by himself in his own room so you can entertain, then you are setting yourself up for disappointment. I wonder why you say "pest" as that particular words makes it sound like he's tagging along like some annoying little brother. Kids are permanent and shouldn't be just dismissed because you have company and you want alone time to be entertained by your company. You're a family now and that includes INCLUDING your children.

He craves your attention. Perhaps you have set him up so that you pay a lot of attention to him when nobody is there, but you ignore him when there is company. Or maybe you have taught him by experience, that when company comes over he is the CENTER of attention... and now that he's not such a baby, you have pulled that attention away from him. When you have company, involve him somewhat, but don't ever make him feel he has to be the center of attention. You may need to retrain him by giving him something to keep him occupied whenever company comes over. Save some special toy for just those times. Perhaps a bath with his favorite bathtub toys could be planned during that time, to distract him from the events in the other room. In other words... strike a happy medium at all times: not too much, nor too little attention. And, remember, children are always a work in progress. Sometimes, you just have to put up with their faults like they have to put up with yours.

because he is a normal happy young boy who wants to have his mummys attention all day long, its nothing odd, try making him feel involved with the guests, tell him who is coming over, have him help answer the door and say hello to everyone and everyone say hello to him and make a little fuss over him for a minute or two, then give him some toys to play with and include him every few minutes, so that he still feels as importnat and loved as he is, he just doesnt want to share you thats all, but if u help him to share you then you will both be a lot happier to have vistors and u may find u get more of them!

From journey, i'd propose: ~ day holiday today-Say "No hitting" (or in spite of the habit may be)do not keep speaking or attempting to barter-then walk away (placed him someplace secure like a %.-n-play). BE consistent! ~ even as he doesn't throw a fit over some thing that you imagine he regularly may, or maybe as he shows the proper habit, praise, praise, and better praise! The habit it is rewarded with praise is maximum in all probability to be repeated. this is a basic way for little ones to communciate that they are frusterated or offended, and so on., considering they're are not waiting to allow you to understand what they're feeling verbally. it ought to take awhile, yet with consistency, he will learn what's proper and what isn't any longer. i think for you-i understand how not basic it truly is!

Probably he feels left out or abandon and especially is he is an only child. Try puting him to bed before company arrives or if its not his bedtime as yet, try doing things that he can be a part of. Always re-assure him that he is one of the most important people in your life no matter who is there.

  • Wants to have as much attention as possible. Don't worry it's normal. I have a five yr. old cousin that still acts up a little when i come over. I think boys act up a little more than girls too.

LMAO.. get used to it!! It doesn't stop until they are like 10!! My kids were that way anyways.. Just wants their attention and sometimes just wants to show off.. Don't stress about it. Just remember right now he's just being a baby and then later on he's just being a kid.. LOL
