Which group has more sophistication? Europeans or Americans?

...and please provide an example in which one group exhibits better than the other.

For trolling toddlers and geographically-perplexed adults out there, Europeans are in a continent called Europe; it's across the Atlantic from North America, north of Africa, west of Asia. Got it? Need a compass? Sad sods...

God bless.

America is such a huge country. States here can be almost as different from each other as countries are in Europe.

I have been to 38 States, the UK five times, several countries in Europe (more then once), Mexico, Canada and Israel.

They all have people of different levels of sophistication.

No matter where they are from, people with 'Class' don't put others down because they are less 'sophisticated'.

There are a lot of Ugly Americans out there, but there are also a lot of Ugly Europeans and Ugly Japanese.

We are all God's children, not matter what name we call him by, and we had better learn to treat everyone with respect no matter what their nationality, race, creed, sex, or sexual orientation.

Europeans are much better dressed, better looking, and more intellegent. Better looking meaning they are not fat and many eat right. More intelligent meaning they are more intresting to hold a conversation with, and the average european knows more than 2 languages. Overall, you can clearly see that europeans are more sophisticated. Not to insult americans, because there are some very good looking, well dressed, fit, and intelligent people in america. But realistically, with sophistication europe reigns supreme between the two regions.

You will find sad sods in both. Europeans have had longer to slide down-hill but Americans are just as good at dumming down the masses. Atleast Europ has laws about who comes into the EU.

Hi, St. Anthony! At the core of your question is the definition of sophistication: I think of it as a knowledge and appreciation of what is refined in life.

Well, although I have to admit that my American countrymen and I have many fine qualities (although lately spelling doesn't seem to be one of them), we are not a refined species, and so are not entitled to be called sophisticated, as a group.

However, I am not so sure that the Europeans have much more claim to the Illuminati title; there is the little matter of public urination, not to mention soccer hooligans. Indeed, poor, coarse and low behavio(u!)r in Europe goes waaaay back to bear baiting.

If pressed to the wall, I'd have to admit that the Japanese come closest to sophisticated...such a venerable culture. But (sigh) there's anime and karaoke.

P.S. Thanks for the geography lesson, I was wondering where you guys were.

Can you please give a scale - what are we comparing the two against? Europeans as they behave in European society - which they are cultured in, against Americans in that same European society - they are not cultured in? Or Americans in American society - which they are very cultured in, against Europeans in American society that they are not exactly schooled in?

Perhaps comparing both groups in a neutral society that gives both an equal opportunity to make asses of themselves...

My answer to your question is that neither is better cultured than the other. They behave as properly or improperly as they are trained in the various circumstances. After all, a cultural faux pas is nothing more than the prejudice of a person dumb enough to not understand that etiquette and manners are taught over time in the societies that require them.

You have to define sophistication. Do you mean the dictionary definition? Sophistication comes with age, education, and social influence; therefore demographics would play a role. Additionally; Europe is a vary diverse place with countries of varying degrees of sophistication. Therefore; your question cannot be objectively answered, sorry.

Europeans...they have Gucci, Armani, LV,Bulgari....Do I have to say more? Ok, what about the food, the museums the University, The languages? There are many cultures there, not only one. Isn't a fair comparison, plus they have more sophistication, because their culture are older than the American culture, they have more knowledge about what is good or not, because they have more experience and that experience, shaped their taste.

It depends on what aspects you're talking about. In some areas, US Americans can seem so naive, like about sexuality and human relationships. In other areas, like thinking 'out of the box', US Americans seem to be more able.

Both are of the same human race...both in equal ways are of similar or unique sophistication.
