    the way i have heard it is when someone has an easy "mark" or person that would be easy to steal from. or they discovered something of great value and they hit a lick

    it's like when you have a really good ice cream cone in your hand on a hot summer day...and it just looks so good, that you want a bite so badly so you dive your face into the cone and "hit a lick". hope that helps.
