    prohibit 禁止 (不允許的 或是 犯法的)

     Smoking is prohibited in many restaurants.

     很多的餐廳都禁止吸煙.

     Smoking is strictly prohibited on the airplane!

     飛機上是絕對禁止吸煙的!(登機後常會聽到的廣播)

     Eating after 8 p.m. is prohibited for those who are on a diet.

     想減肥的人晚上八點之後是禁止吃東西的.

    inhibit 阻止, 阻礙 (跟法律無關)

     An unhappy family life may inhibit children's learning.

     一個不快樂的家庭生活可能會阻礙孩子的學習.

     The presence of the boss in a meeting may inhibit people from expressing their real views.

     老闆在會議中出席, 可能會阻礙大家說出真心話.

    inhibit是阻礙, 妨礙, prohibit 是禁止inhibit= hinder; prohibid= forbid
