Narrator:Jesus took a boat to a waste place by Himself. When the people heard that, they went after him on foot.
[Jesus got off the boat.]
Narrator:When Jesus got off the boat, he saw the big crowd.
Jesus:Quiet down, my people.
Narrator:The noises faded. Jesus took pity on the crowd and healed the sick of them.
Narrator:It was getting dark. Then Jesus’ disciples came to Him.
Disciples:This place is a waste land, and the time is now past; send the people away so that they may go into the towns and get themselves something to eat.
Jesus:There is no need for them to go away; give them food yourselves.
Disciples:But we only have five loaves of bread and two fish.
[Showing Jesus what they had]
Jesus:Give them to me.
[Disciples gave Him what they had.]
Narrator:Jesus ordered people to sit down on the grass. Looking up to heaven, he said words of blessing. And then, he broke the fish and the bread into divisions before passing them on to His disciples. They, in turn, gave the food to the crowd.
Crowd:Praise the LORD!
Narrator:They all had the food. After they had had enough, they collected 12 baskets of leftover. There were five thousand men there in addition to women and children.
