PARK 兩個意思的由來
英文中,一個字常常有多個意思,這些意思多半是有關連性的。PARK 這個字至少有兩個意思,一個是名詞:公園,另一個是動詞:停車。我的問題是,這兩個意思是相互衍生而來的呢?或是從不同的來源而產生的呢?

A very interesting question, below is what listed
in the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, it appears the noun comes from
Medieval Latin and verb is derived from the noun.
noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Old French parc enclosure, from Medieval
Latin parricus
1 a : an enclosed piece of
ground stocked with game and held by royal prescription or grant b :
a tract of land that often includes lawns, woodland, and pasture attached to a
country house and is used as a game preserve and for recreation
2 a : a piece of ground in or near a city or town kept for
ornament and recreation b : an area maintained in its natural
state as a public property
verb
transitive senses
1 : to enclose in a park
2 a (1) : to bring (a vehicle) to a stop and keep standing at the
edge of a public way (2) : to leave temporarily on a public way or in a
parking lot or garage b : to land and leave (as an airplane) c
: to establish (as a satellite) in orbit
Why do we always
park on the driveway and drive on the parkway?
