Over 600 delegates from Guangdong and Hong Kong will attend the Hong Kong -Guangdong business forum in Vancouver on Oct. 24. According to media reports the delegates will be looking for business cooperation in a range of sectors, including infrastructure, information technology, agriculture, biotech and environmental protection.Recent unrest in Guangdong province has brought intoquestion the stability of the government and the treatment of its people. On august 16 the government sent 500 riot police into Taishi, a small village in the south of Guangdong province. The police attempted to take the village accounting book and arrested and injured many villagers.Previously 400 residents of Taishi had signed a petition to remove village head Chen Jinsheng who was suspected of embezzling village funds. On August 31 the government refused the villagers lawful petition, prompting villagers to go on a hunger strike, protesting the government?s violation of village law.On September 12, the government sent 1,000 special task police to remove the village accounting book that the villagers had been protecting for about 50 days.48 people were arrested and many others were assaulted by police including banglie, a delegate to the local people congress from Hebei province who was brutally beaten while entering the Taishi village with a reporter from the UK Guardian.D.J Maguire, the president of China E-lobby called the event that transpired in Taishi "another example of communist deception, corruption and brutality.?
