This objective motivated schools to reform from traditional programs and work toward more individualized programs for students,emphasizinfg individual learning styles,skills and training.

Thus the RAISE model was developed to give counselors a systematic foundation on which to build individualized plans for students,identified as at risk in order to provide them with the tools they need to survive the world of work.The model focuses on methods that encounigc goal setting in students who have little motivation.

It further provides incentives such as the PASS,Edutrain,"I have a dream,:and mentoring programs to increase a student's selfconcept and engender a commitment to stay in school.

THE RAISE MODEL

Based on Supper's Life-Span Theory(1990),the RAISE model focuses on the importance of helping children develp-making skills throughout each developmental stage of their life.

According to Super,each stage is necessary in building skills that are needed for the world of work and for goal setting.Children and adolescents should be contunually given chances to explore and work on their self-concept(values,interests,capacities),supported by exercises that will help them develop a time perspective,or sense of future. Thus,occupational information should be continually provided through classroom curriculum,small group setting,role modeling,and observation by means of field trips,videos,or special spearks.
