Patient’s passive ROM (PROM) is within normal limits (WNL) in all joints of the UEs. Slight tightness at the MP and PIP joints will be encouraged to facilitate finger stability for natural tenodesis action. Specific manual testing revealed symmetry in all innervated UE muscle groups with the ex-ception of elbow extension and wrist extension ( Fig.40-8).
Sensory tests performed were pain, light-touch, and kin-esthesia, with the following findings:
Pain ( pinprick )
L: C6 and above—intact; C7 and below—absent
R: C5 and above—intact; C6—impaired; C7 and below—absent
L: C6 and above—intact; C7—impaired; C8 and below—absent
R: C6 and above—intact; C7 and below—absent
L: Wrist, elbow, shoulder—intact; radial fingers—impaired; ulnar fingers—absent
R: Wrist, elbow, shoulder—intact; radial and ulnar fingers—absent
Although physical endurance is low as observed in fre-quent rest periods during a 60-minute treatment session, the patient’s wheelchair tolerance is 8 hours per day.
Sitting balance is fair on the mat or edge of bed. How-ever, Mr. H requires a chest strap while pushing his wheel-chair to maintain good sitting balance.
Coordination and muscle control are good in available musculature as evidenced by performance in table top and sink activities.
