Behaviouralism is the belief that social theories should be constructed only on the basis of observable behaviour (as opposed to behaviouralism, which is the school of psychology that holds that human behaviour can ultimately be explained in terms of conditioned reactions or reflexes.) The behavioural approach to political analysis developed out of positivism, adopting is assertion that scientific knowledge can be developed only on the basis of explanatory theories that are verifiable. Behavioural analysis typically involves the collection of quantifiable data through research surveys, statistical analysis and the construction of empirical theories that have predictive capacity.
