    Katrina

It could take up to nine mouths to drain .....",其中mouths應為months,jeffy可能有看出錯誤,而柯仔並沒有,直接翻成9張嘴排泄那些洪水?

Although they have a different name in this part of the world, hurricanes and their destructive powers are well known to people in Taiwan. Many typhoon, as they are called in Asia, have destroyed lives and property with their powerful winds and accompanying floods. People here can easily sympathize, then, with the inhabitants of New Orleans, the American city devastate by hurricane Katrina on the night of August 28, 2005.

Before Katrina, New Orleans had been a vibrant city famous for its multicultural heritage, its music, and its food. The city’s unique mix of African, French, and Spanish influences made it unlike any other place in America. Its many festivals have attracted tourists from around the world. Mardi Gras, for instance, is a huge street party that marks the end of the carnival season each February. The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival celebrates jazz music in the city of its birth

New Orleans was more then just a party town, however. Located on the Gulf of Mexico, it formed part of the world’s fourth busiest seaport. It is also home to two prestigious universities. Last mouth, its economic and cultural activity came to an abrupt end with one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. history. The day after Hurricane Katrina made landfall, 80 percent of New Orleans was under water, up to six meters deep in places. Those residents who did not flee before the storm have since been evacuated. The final death toll could be in the thousands. New Orleans has become a ghost town.

Recovery from such a catastrophe will be a long, slow process. It could take up to nine mouths to drain all the floodwater before work can begin to rebuild the 150,000 properties that were damaged or destroyed. Results will depend on the authorities, who have been strongly criticized for their initial slowness to respond. It remains to be seen whether, in the years to come, New Orleans will regain its place as the industrial and cultural capital of the American Sough(south?).
