    被阻擋的射線:長波紅外線,長波射電波, x射線, 伽碼射線,微波

    不被阻擋的射線:短波射電波(radio wave),可見光, 短波紅外線

    原因是地球大氣層會吸收可致命的x射線及伽碼射線,而紅外線則由二氧化碳及水氣吸收(有某些波長的紅外線可穿過地球)

    另外,地球吸取太陽光後,會發現紅外線亦會影響觀察

    所以地面望遠鏡通常只有紅外線(eg. mauna kea telescope),可見光及射電(eg. arecibo telescope)

    當然放上太空的則什麼也有:

    uv; iue (1978-1996), euve (extreme UV explorer), FUSE (Far UV Spectroscopic Explorer), Galex

    infrared: ISO (infrared space observatory),Spitzer Space Telescope (SST), IRIS

    微波:Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) (1989), Microwave Anisotropy Probe(MAP)

    gamma ray: Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (CGRO) (1990-2000), HETE-2, Integral (international gamma-ray astrophysics Laboratory), Agile, SXG

    visible light: Hubble Telescope

    x-ray: Roentgen Satellite (Rosat), Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO)
