    Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?

    Thou art more lovely and more temperate:

    Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,

    And summer’s lease hath all too short a date:

    Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,

    And often is his gold complexion dimm’d;

    And every fair from fair sometime declines,

    By chance, or nature’s changing course untrimm’d;

    But thy eternal summer shall not fade,

    Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st,

    Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in his shade,

    When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st:

    So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,

    So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

    我該把你比擬做夏天嗎?

    你比夏天更可愛,更溫婉:

    狂風會把五月的嬌蕊吹落,

    夏天出租的期限又太短暫:

    有時天上的眼睛照得太熱,

    他金色的面容常常變陰暗;

    一切美的事物總不免凋敗,

    被機緣或自然的代謝摧殘:

    但你永恆的夏天不會褪色,

    不會失去你所擁有的美善,

    死神也不能誇說你在他陰影裡徘徊,

    當你在永恆的詩行裡與時間同久長:

    只要人們能呼吸或眼睛看得清,

    此詩將永存,並且賜給你生命。

    No longer mourn for me when I am dead

    Than you shall hear the surly sullen bell

    Give warning to the world that I am fled

    From this vile world with vilest worms to dwell:

    Nay, if you read this line, remember not

    The hand that writ it, for I love you so,

    That I in your sweet thoughts would be forgot,

    If thinking on me then should make you woe.

    O! if, I say, you look upon this verse,

    When I perhaps compounded am with clay,

    Do not so much as my poor name rehearse;

    But let your love even with my life decay;

    Lest the wise world should look into your moan,

    And mock you with me after I am gone.

    當我死時不要再為我悲哀,

    當你聽到陰鬱沉重的鐘聲響起,

    向世人通告說我已經離開

    這濁世去和最穢濁的蟲蛆同棲:

    不,如果你讀到此詩,不要回想

    書寫它的手,因為我愛你至深,

    情願被你甜蜜的思緒遺忘,

    如果想起我使你悲傷頓生。

    噢,我說,如果你看到這詩,

    那時我或已和泥土混為一團,

    請你連我可憐的名字都不要提,

    就讓你的愛隨著我的生命消散;

     免得精明的世人看透你傷心處,

     讓你在我死後跟著我一同受辱。

    so is it not with me as with that muse,

    stirred by a painted beauty to his verse,

    who heav'n itself for ornament doth use,

    and every foair with his fair doth rehearse;

    making a couplement of proud compare

    with sun and moon, with earth and sea's rich gems,

    with April's first-born flow'rs, and all things rare

    that heaver's air in this huge rondure hems.

    o let me true in love but truly write,

    and then believe me, my love is as fair

    as any mothers child, though not so bright

    as those gold candles fixed in heaver's air.

    let them say more that like of hearsay well;

    i will not praie that purpose not to seell.

    我跟那位詩人可完全不同,

    他一見脂粉美人就要歌吟;

    說這美人的裝飾品竟是蒼穹,

    鋪陳種種美來描繪他的美人;

    並且作著各種誇張的對比,

    比之為太陽、月亮、海陸的珍寶,

    比之為四月的鮮花,以及被大氣

    用來鑲天球的邊兒的一切奇妙。

    我呵,忠於愛,也得忠實地寫述,

    請相信,我的愛人跟無論哪位

    母親的孩子一樣美,儘管不如

    凝在天上的金燭台那樣光輝;

    人們盡可以把那類空話說個夠;

    我這又不是叫賣,何必誇海口。

    weary with toil, i haste me to my bed,

    the dear repose for limbs with travel tired,

    but then begins a journey in my head

    to work my mind, when body's work's expired.

    for then my thoughts, from far where i abide,

    intend a zealous pilgrimage to thee,

    and keep my drooping eyelids open wide,

    looking on darkness which the blind do see.

    save that my soul's imaginary sight

    presents thy shadow to my sightless view,

    which like a jewel hung in ghastly night,

    makes black night beauteous, and her old face new.

    lo, thus by day my limbs, by night my mind,

    for thee, and for myself, no q1uiet find.

    勞動使我疲倦了,我急忙上床,

    來好好安歇我旅途勞頓的四肢;

    但是,腦子的旅行又隨即開場,

    勞力剛剛完畢,勞心又開始;

    這時候,我的思念就不辭遙遠,

    從我這兒熱後地飛到你身畔,

    又使我睜開著沉重欲垂的眼簾,

    凝視著盲人也能見到的黑暗:

    終於,我的心靈使你的幻像

    鮮明地映上我眼前的一片烏青,

    好像寶石在可怕的夜空放光,

    黑夜的古舊面貌也煥然一新。

    看,我白天勞力,夜裏勞心,

    為你,為我自己,我不得安寧。

    as an unperfect actor on the stage,

    who with his fear is put besides his part,

    or some fierce thing replete withtoo much rage,

    whose strength's abundance weakens his own heart.,

    so i, for fear of trust, frget to say

    the perfect ceremony of love's rite,

    and in mine own love's strength seem to decay,

    o'ercharged with burthen of mine own love's might.

    o let my books be then the eloquenceand

    dumb presagers ofmy speaking breast,

    who pleadfor love and look for recompense

    more than that tongue that more hath more expressed.

    o learn to read what silent love hath writ.

    to hear with eyes belongs to love's fine wit.

    像沒有經驗的演員初次登台,

    慌裡慌張,忘了該怎樣來表演,

    又像猛獸,狂暴暴地吼叫起來,

    過分的威力反而使雄心發軟

    我,也因為缺乏自信而惶恐,

    竟忘了說的完整的辭令,

    強烈的愛又把我壓得太重,

    使我的愛力彷德失去了熱情。

    呵,但願我無聲的詩卷能夠

    滔滔不絕地說滿腔的語言,

    來為愛辯護,並且期待報酬,

    比那能言的如頭更為雄辯。

    學會讀緘默的愛情寫下的詩啊;

    用眼睛來聽,方是愛情的睿智啊!
