1)It was a slugfest that more resembled a late-round match(場) in a major than an early season hard-court(硬地球場) event.

[late-round match in a major]:?

2)Points often lasted between 10 and 20 shots, with both players sliding off the court in the corners to keep the ball in play.

[siding off the count]:雙方選手在底線切球。

3)...that forced Roddick to do almost everything right to win

[almost everything right to win]:?

4)He also broke right back after the German's break of serve to start the second set.

[broke right back]:?

[the German's break of serve]:?

5)In the first semi(半決賽), Saulnier kept his cool(保持冷靜) and kept slugging away until he wore down Jurgen Melzer and his bum ankle.

[kept slugging away]:?

[wore down]:磨損?

6)...slicing groundstrokes(平飛球) to rally from a set down.

[rally from a set down]:?

7)...calling the official "the worst."

    1)It was a slugfest that more resembled a late-round match(場) in a major than an early season hard-court(硬地球場) event. [slugest]查到的意思是「打得不可開交的拳擊賽;連連安打得分的棒球賽」,但在網球上怎麼形容比較恰當呢?

    [late-round match in a major]:?

    [early sesaon hard-court event]:稍早球季硬地球場的事件?(怪怪的)

    slugfest=激烈、精采

    late-round match = match是比賽, late-round就是像已經過了初步淘汰賽,

    進入比賽後半段的,大家都要使出混身解數用所有實力來決戰的程度。

    (不像淘汰賽時,程度不一,還可以保留實力)

    major = major match, 重要的(大型)比賽,公開賽之類的比較大型的正式的比賽

    early-season= (球季的)剛開始、初期

    event= 活動 (在網球場上的活動當然就是練習或比賽),就類似練習賽、友誼賽

    整句話的意思,大概就是:

    這場精采的球賽,一點都不像球季剛開始在硬地球場的活動(初賽或友誼賽),他的激烈程度好比重要(公開)球賽的決賽的競爭啊。

    2)Points often lasted between 10 and 20 shots, with both players sliding off the court in the corners to keep the ball in play.

    [sliding off the court]:雙方選手在底線切球。對嗎?

    對,雙方選手為了減少死角,都退到底線外好讓自己能有更多空間靈活運用的意思

    3)...that forced Roddick to do almost everything right to win

    [almost everything right to win]:?

    forced=逼迫

    almost=進全部、將盡

    forced to do almost everything right to win= 被逼到幾乎要完全不能出錯才能贏

    forced Roddick to do almost everything right to win= roddick 幾乎要完全不能出錯才能贏

    換句話說,他沒有做錯誤判斷的本錢了。

    4)He also broke right back after the German's break of serve to start the second set.

    怎麼翻譯呢?

    [broke right back]:?

    [the German's break of serve]:?

    break=「破發點」,意指發球方輸掉該局局點。

    德國方雖然第二局開始時得到破發點,但他馬上就反擊了回去

    5)In the first semi(半決賽), Saulnier kept his cool(保持冷靜) and kept slugging away until he wore down Jurgen Melzer and his bum ankle.

    kept slugging away= slug 是揮棒的動作, keep slugging away 就是不斷的揮動球拍

    wore down=在這邊的意思是【讓...疲勞】

    bum=懶惰的、沒有用的

    整句話大概的意思就是

    在前半場, saulnier很冷靜沉著的回應,直到他的對手Melzer的體力和腳踝都漸漸承受不住。

    (有點【剛開始只是保守反擊,後來對手漸漸體力不支,sailnier才加強攻勢那樣】)

    6)...slicing groundstrokes(平飛球) to rally from a set down.

    [rally from a set down]:?

    set down=結束~定案、定局

    rally =鼓舞,舞動,不安分

    rally from set down=有點扳回一城、死灰復燃的感覺

    7)...calling the official "the worst."

    類似宣稱【說是他遇過最爛的裁判】那樣的語氣
