His prowess with a sword, his fury in a boxing match, and his skills as an aquestrian just to name a few. No doubt his most outstanding skill (especially to the recent generations) was as a poet. His style and wit still attract readers making him one of the most popularly read men of the last couple centuries. In his day, he had a special nack for going into contraversial waters in his various writings. Often poking fun at influential people, and powerful family names, and although in this day and age political satire is common place and actually brings a subtile respect to its victims, in the turn over from the 16th to 17th centuries, it could be a very serious matter. So, he took on various pen names and cast his written stones from the shadows, proving his pen mightier than even his own sword.Enter John Polidori... In April of 1819 London's "New Monthly Magazine", Polidori's story "The Vampyre" made its smashing debut as England's first great story on the subject. The public however, falsley attributed the work to Byron, and the popularity of the story grew on the coat tail of a rumor. By the time it was disproven, the story had already managed its foot hold in England. So, Lord Byron's influance reached even beyond his own work to help shape the fokelore of a nation.
