easily the 172 ip is the generation of ips called ip 4 .. this generation have many features in the coding send like it have bigger header and more error check and so on ...but the most good option that it can support million of million of ip address and this is the reason of making this new generation
there is an answer about private ip address but any network u can make it private by providing ur ip ..not automatically obtain it and let the router configure it

Both of these address ranges (192.168.0.0 and 172.20.0.0) are considered "private" IP address spaces and are non-routable on the global Internet. You use them for private use on your home or office networks. This is all defined in RFC 1918. There is also the 10.0.0.0 network. The main difference between then is the Class A/B/C distinction. 10.0.0.0 is a class A network. The class B private IP ranges are from 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.0.0 and the class C networks are the 192.168 networks. The advantage of one over the other depends on the size of your network and how you want to set up your IP subnetting. For example, with 192.168.0.0 and 24-bit subnet masks (255.255.255.0) you could have up to 254 networks with up to 254 hosts each. (In some cases 256 networks with 254 hosts each.) That's a lot of networks and hosts, but maybe not for a large corporation, so that's where the 172 and 10 ranges come in.
