I think that Barca is going to overcome that hump, or shuck the chip off it's back and win the Champions League, behind the current BEST player in the world, Ronaldinho, he can do anything, superb foot to foot, head, where ever passing, incredibly creative dribbling, an all around MASTER of the most beautiful sport, he exemplifies grace and beauty, but has some ugly goals too, and they count.
As far as Lionel Messi, he's had a long and illustrious career, starting with Newells Old Boys in 1995-2000, BEFORE the age of 13, but after a stint with them, he crossed the Atlantic at the age of 13 to test his resolve and skill with Barca's under 14's where he made a superb showing, and moved up quickly through the Barca ranks, where in the 2003-04 season, he was ONLY 16 and playing for one of the most celebrated la liga teams in the world, and making a superb showing too!
In the 2003-2004 season, when he was still only 16, Messi made his first team showing by a friendly with Porto. The following championship-winning season, Messi made his first appearance in an official match on October 16, 2004, in Barcelona's win against Espangol at the Olympic Stadium (0-1).
Further, when several players on the first line were injured, Messi got his chance to shine, and shine he did scoring a gaol, being the youngest player to score, and in the U-20 WC in Holland, he not only WON the championship with Argentina, but he proved to be the major gaol scorer, albeit, he's one of the HOTTEST properties in futbol today, for he just got a contract extention, to something like 2014, so he's a beloved Argentine player (just as Ronaldinho is with Brasilia, and Barca) and Barca favourite, however, head to head, I'd have to say realistically Ronaldinho's experience with MANY world cups, his age, and his sheer inured skill, outweighs Messi's, which is not to say Messi is a slouch, far, far from it, and he has such a bright, bright career ahead, that someday I've no doubt he'll surpass Ronaldinho's current FIFA player of the YEAR stature, and make his own resounding mark...The Barca situation is BRIGHT and filled with HOPE, however, Argentina's current WC run, even during friendlies, has been clouded with lackluster second half play (as they allowed England to come back after being 3 down, and WIN) which makes many an Argentine fan nervous, as the consensious has been of late..OH NO..here we go again..however, it's players like MESSI that can LIFT THEM single-handedly, and the stunning tandem of Ronaldinho and Messi, chuffin' it up but right for Barca is a JOY to behold, as they were nee'r written off not that long ago, but that's what makes these players so special, their ability to make it COUNT when they have to, and I feel they feed off each other, learn from each other, and are two of the BEST players in futbol today! We just need to wait and see, because of that old addage, and the fact their is less parity amongst the elite teams, ergo, any team can beat any team on any given day! But pound for pound I think right now "Little Ronaldo" is an all around better player, and I think Messi will be their VERY SHORTLY indeed.
I know this is both a historical treatise and opinion, but it's an exciting question that deserves a solid, well thought answer.
