The cornea is the clear part of the eye. The outer surface of the normal cornea is covered by a thin sheet of tissue called "epithelium". A corneal abscess occurs when bacteria or fungus enter the cornea through an injury in the epithelium. The epithelium may heal too quickly and essentially "seal" the bacteria or fungus inside the cornea. The bacteria or fungus grown within the cornea and from an abscess.

It sounds like a corneal scratch which I had and it was healed with eye drops. This was several years ago. If you are in Canada, can't you get access to an opthalmologist?
