Setting of Romeo and Juliet?
What is the time period of Romeo and Juliet (the year the play takes place?)

The real life Romeo and Juliet died in Verona , Italy in 1303. So I assume it is based on that actual time. It is believed that the play was first performed between 1594-1595. A little more than you asked, but I hoped it helped.Source(s): yahoo search phrase "romeo juliet time era"

Set it in the late 19th century in a very poor area along the West Virginia/Kentucky border. The framework of "Romeo and Juliet" has so much in common with the Hatfield-McCoy feud that it seems a natural.
