We know about 154 -- It is, of course, likely that he wrote more, but only 154 were published.

  • Yes, it is 154 that are published; these are divided into 3 groups 1-17 is the introductory series celebrating the beauty of a young man and encourages him to procreate, 18-126 is the long sequence talking about time and its transiance (counteracted only by the permanence of poetry and the power of love and friendship) and 127-154 are the remaining sonnets focusing on the "Dark Lady".
