    The depth of water also has effect. The shallower the water the warmer. The deeper the colder. So water in the tropics, near the equator and shallow should be warmest.

    the waters closer to the equator are impacted more directly by the sun's rays and thus are warmed to a greater temperature. This is the entire theory of the birth of tropical storms/hurricanes. The warmer the waters the more likely the beginnings of a hurricane

    In the hotest part of the world, like the Persian Gulf. I know the water temperature approaches 100 degrees.

    the area that is closest to the sunlight. it is also usually around the equatorial line on the earth.
