Actually, Time Warner was bought by AOL. They paid $184 billion, but much of this was in stock.

Time Warner didn't buy AOL. Instead AOL bought Time Warner.

"In a stunning development, America Online Inc. announced plans to acquire Time Warner Inc. for roughly $182 billion in stock and debt Monday, creating a digital media powerhouse with the potential to reach every American in one form or another."

Internet Explorer is your web browser and has nothing to do with a Internet service provider like AOL or Time Warner if you cancel the Internet service you will still have the Internet Explorer browser you just would not have a Internet connection. You will not lose any files or downloads.
