    This may work.

Buy a low-end pair of powered PC speakers

Get a stereo-RCA to 3.5 mm cable to connect the speakers to the back of the Ps3.

Anything more fancy you need to buy an AV receiver or amplifier and real speakers.

you have to get a hdmi to vga adapter, vga does not carry sound, to get sound you have to either buy computer speakers or a reciever with speakers and connect it to you computer with an rca to headphone adapter

The answer is simply that you can't! The VGA port does NOT carry any sound signals, only video signals (Red/Green/Blue/Hsync/Vsync) plus a few others which are used to tell the computer about the capabilities of the monitor in question.

Yes, that would work fine. Most of the time you can adjust the output resolution the computers displays to any size you want if you wanted to use a HDMI to HDMI.
